Come learn about Scouting at our 'Back to the Pack' Picnic! Tuesday, September 2nd at 6:00pm at Grandview Park!
CAMPING IN PACK 148
Enjoying the outdoors is a huge benefit of joining Scouts, and providing fun and unique camping opportunities is something Pack 148 prides itself on! We strive to create fun, safe, and educational opportunities for all our Scouts throughout the program year. Whether it's your first time camping or you're a camping enthusiast, we make camping easy!
We aim to provide camping opportunities for 6 months of the year. And our goal is to see every Scout try camping at least once per year!
WHERE WE GO
Throughout the year, we'll mix up our camping opportunities to take advantage of all that WI and MN have to offer! This includes local parks, State Parks, Scout Camps, and one further destination camping trip - it's like our mini version of Scouts BSA High Adventure Camping!
We typically attend Cub Scout Summer Camp in July, host our further destination trip in August, and attend Spooky-Ree in October.
Some examples of places you might camp include:
Glen Hills County Park, Lake Wissota State Park, and Devil's Lake State Park
Spooky-Ree and Cub Scout Summer Camp
Lake Superior North & South Shores, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and Door County
The USS Cobia and Eagle Cave
WHAT WE DO
Our camping trips are geared towards taking advantage of the opportunities of the location we're staying at! That means you can expect some hiking, swimming, gaga ball, fishing, etc. And we'll of course have campfires and s'mores in the evenings!
We typically leave Hudson on Friday evenings around 4:30 pm, travel to the site, and have dinner at the campsite. Saturday will be our day of adventure! And on Sunday, we'll pack up and leave shortly after breakfast. This means we're often back home by noon on Sunday! For our August camping trip, however, we often leave early Friday morning as this trip will have a longer travel time.

WHAT TO BRING
You'll only need to bring your personal items on a camping trip with Pack 148. Things like the Cub Scout Six Essentials for hiking, your tent, sleeping bag, clothes, water bottle, and a camping chair. And if you don't have any of these items - don't worry! There's a good chance the Pack can lend you something for the weekend!
We have a fully furnished trailer that is stocked with all cooking gear, plates/bowls/utensils, the grill & propane, etc. And the Pack will secure all food for the weekend's menu!
Check out our Campout Packing List for recommended items to bring.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST
For non-Council camping trips, we divide the cost equally among all participants (reservation fee, food costs, cost to haul the Pack trailer). Most of these trips will cost between $30 - $50 per person, depending on the cost of the site and the length of the stay.
For Council camping (Cub Scout Summer Camp and Spooky-Ree) and other "events" (the USS Cobia Overnight Stay or Eagle Cave Camping), those costs are set by the event coordinator.
The Pack will communicate the expected costs for each trip as the event is announced. By default, the Pack will subtract these costs from your Scout's Scout Account balance after the event. If you notice your Scout Account balance will not cover the cost of the trip, please submit payment to our Pack Treasurer. Please note that some events are non-refundable, and the last day to RSVP will be communicated to all families.
HOW TO SIGN UP
All of our events will be loaded into the Pack Calendar on Scoutbook Plus, and those events that require an RSVP will also be included on the Upcoming Events page of our website. The RSVP date will be included in the event description.
When you RSVP, please include the names of all family members in the comments on the Scoutbook Plus event page!
